The Power of Now A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment Tolle

It’s no wonder that The Power of Now has sold over 2 million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 30 foreign languages. Much more than simple principles and platitudes, the book takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light.

In the first chapter, Tolle introduces readers to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey is thrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being, “the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death.”

Featuring a new preface by the author, this paperback shows that only after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from Mind and intensely in the Now, is there Enlightenment.

2.0 out of 5 stars Multiple spiritual concepts merge into confusion I read this book twice so why only two stars? Because while the principles are familiar if you're a Christian or Buddhist the path to Tolle's truth is not clear and the message gets lost along the way.Essentially he says that our ego is predominate and rules us through our thoughts instead of us embracing our true selves by always staying in the immediate moment. He repeats the concepts many times, presumably because they're difficult to grasp, but ultimately the entire message gets confusing by the end of the book. This could be because he also throws in some philosophy and psychology and with all of those elements swirling around the way to his enlightenment gets lost. My spiritual path has been choppy throughout my 68 years but I'm always searching and open to new understanding so I had high hopes for this acclaimed book. But by the end of the second reading (had I missed it the first time? Too deep for me?) I determined the central simple tenet of staying present requires more practical instructions than this all over the place book provides.
