I haven’t seen the original but yeah I appreciate the effort to make this version as well.You can feel the rawness of the whole story. The action items at the end of each chapter are powerful and get you to dig DEEP!Goggins is a great example that it’s how you respond to things, not the things themselves, that makes up a lot of one’s life.This book was amazing! If I’d read it earlier it surely would have helped neutralized the victim mindset I started harboring in my later 20’s.There’s no time like the present though. The words are simple and it's like to listening to someone, the writer gives you his thoughts when he was on the edge and it's like you were there with him...!And this book gives me many conclusions and New perspective about life!Thank you for a wonderful book!

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST READ if you aspire more from life! I listened to the audiobook before deciding to order a physical copy. I sort of wished I would have looked carefully and realized this was the “clean” version. Honestly, the curse words give the story a more “raw” feel to it. Idk why people are so put off by the bad language, that is David’s character and he embraces his character instead of trying to please people. Which is one of his points in the book. To stop giving a f** what people think about you, that is why people are so scared to do anything in life because they are too worried about what others are going to think of them. I would recommend reading the book and then listening to the audiobook because you get some commentary from David himself which you won’t find in the physical copy. David DOES NOT expect anyone to follow his path or do the things he’s done, but instead use his words of wisdom to be your OWN hero and apply what you’ve learned to YOUR LIFE and mold into the life YOU WANT. It seems that the people leaving negative comments have obviously missed the point of it all. I 100% recommend this book as it has changed my live indefinitely. 13 people found this helpful

He really is the hardest man alive and probably to have ever lived. Buy it, read it, you won't be disappointed. Possibly could change your life. It's helped me to make positive progress.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing read. I'm fantastic at starting a book and never finishing it. I have 80 of those HD things and get distracted and/bored and quit reading a book and start reading another. It took me awhile as I only read for a bit before bed but I read this book every night until the end. So much of what he writes about, you can associate with to some degree. The lessons and mindset can also be applied to every walk of life.If you're thinking about reading this, I highly recommend you do. You will not be disappointed. 2 people found this helpful

I decided to give it another try and I’m so glad I did. This book has totally shifted my perspective on the power of the mind and what we think is possible for ourselves. I managed to get sober after reading it and have implemented so many healthy habits. We all go through our own battles and hardships, but we ultimately set our own limitations in life. 5.0 out of 5 stars Keep pushing I liked the brutal truth in David’s story telling.As I finish this book, I am starting my Command and Staff College residency course, with the Air Force at Maxwell AFB as a CAARNG Soldier, I feel a kinship, started school in the fourth grade in the states, dropped out of the 10th Grade in Canada. As I write this I am Major in the National Guard, prior service US Navy enlisted, with a ten year brake in service. 5.0 out of 5 stars Intimate Portrait of a Painful Life and Overcoming the Odds First of all, I was prepared to not like this book. I thought it would be just another self-help book, full of pep-talks and platitudes, without any significant substance.I was completely wrong. This book is very well written, with colorful and creative ways of describing what David endured. His memory must be amazing because he takes you through his inner thoughts as he experienced very painful and challenging episodes that few people come close to experiencing.Rather than a self-help book, it is an autobiography of one man's suffering, pain, and all of the challenges he endured as he failed sometimes, but never gave up. It was very inspiring, even more-so in retrospect, as David accomplished amazing physical feats while suffering from an atrial-septal defect, a congenital heart condition that should have kept him from competing at the level that he did. He did not find out about it until years later.David has had a remarkable life, and my life is richer for him sharing the details of his struggles. 5 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Story of an Amazing Life Reading negative reviews before buying books has saved me a fair amount through the years since I buy so many and am looking for reasons not to make a purchase. What I heard about Goggins had intrigued me, but what I found in the negative reviews of his other edition caused me to lean hard toward passing on his book. Fortuitously for me I kept digging deeper out of curiosity to find out more about this man and found his "Clean Edition" which had just came out the day before my purchase. So, I made the purchase and I'm glad I did.David has overcome significant obstacles in his life to become, as he puts it, one of the uncommon amongst the uncommon. He is a leader among men that exemplifies the saying, "Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another." The next time life tries to toss some pity-party at me, I'm going to think of David and all he put himself through and endured; wow!Simply remarkable! 5.0 out of 5 stars Every man needs to read this. This is the clean edition. I listened to the Audible version of the full version, but if you don't want the profanity, this is a good substitute. Either way, hearing where Chief David Goggins begins and where he arrives, and how he does it, will change your life.We all could be David Goggins. We choose not to each time we slurp down a chocolate shake or lay on the couch flipping through Netflix. Don't waste your life. It's too short.This book will help. Love his story, love his reality based no bs approach to life and communicating. Inspiring without the toxic positivity you see and hear in so many self help books.
